St Kilda & the Australian Open Day 1

As we previously announced, Sunday 16 January we left for Melbourne on 5 days!
After the holiday season, with Cyril we already pining to go back a few days off!

leave very early Sunday morning, we arrived around 9:15 on Melbourne. Arriving at the hotel around 11am, we were very well received and were able to go quickly around the area.
The hotel was located in the East Richmond neighborhood just 10 minutes short for the Australian Open and between Bridge Rd and Swan St Street we especially popular for its cafes, bakeries and shops.

Given the time we are naturally led to Swan St to test a small cafe for brunch.

The sun shone and we taste of coffee and chocolate shakes, eggs Benedict and lemon cake and the coconut:

Perfect for starting these little vacation!

Then as we had the day off 4 days before full details of the tennis courts, we headed to St Kilda to enjoy the beach and discover an area that we do not yet know.
To our great regret, the beach was packed St Kilda, in Melbourne there are not many beaches in Sydney, so everyone goes there in good weather. We were also somewhat disappointed by the beach itself was limited brown water - perhaps all of the time course of flooding. Anyway we were not charmed, it must be said that the beaches of Sydney and its surroundings are beautiful, then it becomes difficult to force ;-)

So we went for a walk in the area and found the Luna Park In St Kilda, a little larger than in Sydney: the park seem to have quite a success.
We liked Acland St with all the little shops, cafes and restaurants, even with so many people on this street is very charming!

Sunday evening we were pretty slammed for getting up at 3:45 in the morning, but we found Olivier (remember we met during the Walk 7bridges ). Olivier is currently in Melbourne was an opportunity. We had a great night in a park around a barbecue company 2potes him.

Monday morning, we headed to the tennis courts for the opening at 10am. The match started at 11am so we left a little time to wander and enjoy the workouts of the players.
For the first two days, we had access only short appendices, a total score that the larger the Margaret Court Arena. The Melbourne Park's Rod Laver Arena also and Hisense Arena, we will enjoy the weekend ;-)

Following our day on the Rod Laver Arena last year, we understood that the first week it's great to enjoy too short given the small number of games in the program and that sometimes there is no need to pay more for that a ground pass to see good games and especially enjoy the atmosphere.

arriving Monday so we went around Park and runs No. 6 we were preparing to attend the game of French Julien Benneteau when we learned that he will not play due to injury chopsticks ;-) . Lucky
anyway, since the short No. 6 we had a great view on the short No. 4 and were able to attend the training Ana Ivanovic is currently the 20th World and winner of Roland Garros in 2008.
His training was followed by training the World No. 1 who is none other than Rafael Nadal:
We particularly enjoyed seeing the players in training sessions, they are relaxed and accessible unlike during a match where the tension is often at its peak.

So we followed up with the training of Robin Soderling World No. 4 and No. 5 Andy Murray World:

We then went to attend our first game and we had chosen to support the French Pauline Parmentier (105th) to a tough match against Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova in the 36th globally.
Although French has lost it played well and tried to cope with the Bulgarian!

At the same time, we had seen on the course No. 20 and were able to attend the training Svetlana Kuznetsova currently 26th but won the World 2004 U.S. Open and Roland Garros in 2009.

Then we headed to the Margaret Court Arena for the match between the Australian Jelena Dokic (137th) to Czech Zuzana Ondraskova (82).
Super game, with a fantastic atmosphere of the public to support the Australian player, linking songs, jokes, hola and ball games. We loved this game ball or someone from the public launching an inflatable balloon plastic and where those who receive the public must also restart! We can not, cons, not to say that this game has charmed the "Môssieu" security ;-)

J. Dokic did a great match and won easily 6-3 - 6-2 to the delight of the audience!

We ended the day by the end of the training of Novak Djokovic (No. 3) where we could see his side relax and sense of humor. Djokovic is known for his skills as an impersonator for players including Maria Sharapova, Rafael Nadal, Andy Roddick and the end of the drive we saw a little boy imitating her a very funny Rafael Nadal: Novak Djokovic laughed.

After this good moment, the last match of the day: French Gilles Simon (34th) against the Taiwanese Lu Yen-Hsen (37th). Match
hung in 4sets, where it was cold and regularly interrupted by rain.
funny anecdote: at the Australian Open and it rains even a few drops, ball boys and staff are expected to wipe the lines that become slippery. It's pretty funny to see them. The match is stopped if the lines are too slippery and the least we can say is that Monday night Gilles Simon used these repeated interruptions to power blow and win the game. He looked tired after his victory in Sydney 2days ago but he still played well.
